TANNING: RISK AND ALTERNATIVES

Tanning

Every girl wants to have a natural, golden tan. A tan can give you more confidence, can make you look slimmer and can make your skin more beautiful. Every year, millions of people flock to the beaches and tanning beds to achieve that beautiful tan. However, tanning might be doing your body more harm than good.

There are many reasons that people want to be tan. They may crave to look more beautiful or have more confidence in a swimming suit. It is a known fact that tanning causes skin cancer and other harmful diseases. Because of this fact, many people have opted to use a tanning bed rather than lying out at the beach. They do this because it is supposedly “safer.” However, there are many facts that say that tanning beds are just as harmful as the sun.

Risks of Tanning Beds
Many people have opted to go to the tanning bed rather than lay out in the sun. However, research say that tanning beds can be just as damaging to the body as the sun. Here are some risks of using a tanning bed.
  • Tanning can lead to skin cancer.  Even though tanning beads don’t have as many UV rays as the sun does, they still have enough to cause cancer.
  • Tanning too much can lead to eye damage.
  • Tanning beds can cause changes in the immune system, making it harder for the body to fight off bacteria and infections.
  • Tanning too much can lead to wrinkles and premature aging of the skin.
Alternatives to Tanning
It is always the safest policy to avoid tanning altogether. However, if you still want beautiful, tan skin there is things that you can do. Try using a sunless tanning cream instead of baking in the sun. These creams often look just like a real tan and they can be achieved in minutes! Not only do these creams allow you to have tan skin, but they won’t damage your health. There is also spray on tans that many tanning salons offer. These treatments can be expensive, but it is a great alternative to lying out at the beach or tanning beds.
